A Favorite Poet and Teacher...Walt Whitman

Walt Whitman is probably my favorite poet - certainly a favorite life teacher! His words have straightened me out more than once.
I did this drawing a few days ago of Walt - I was happy with how it turned out and wanted to share it with you all. Here is an excerpt from Walt Whitman's "Song of the Open Road". Enjoy!

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.

Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,
Strong and content I travel the open road...

beautiful drawing Kaia!
I love the drawing and the poem Kaia. The poem is really a good guide to following a path through life that is in accord with one's True Self and he speaks from that level. It is a comfort. Nice that such light exists and can bring us back to our center when we momentarily find ourselves distracted from what is real.

He really was in touch with deep reality of it all.

Dave and I were watching Ric Burns history of New York and he figures into that history and wrote beautiful things. Thank you for sharing this and the drawing!
