"Evening Crescendo" 10x20 oil on canvas During the months of July and August here in Arizona, the summer skies were doing their evening magic with sunset after sunset, each one seemingly trying to out-do the next in color explosion and jaw dropping beauty. Has to be one of the biggest highlights of where I live and undoubtedly lends to extreme inspiration for painting. Speaking of which, I dove into a series of skyscapes inspired by these sunsets and found myself immersed in the discovery of color harmonies and abstract expression, which sky and clouds can make it easy to explore both those elements of painting. "Thunderhead" 24" x 20" oil on stretched linen up for auction starting bid $350! Click Here to see auction. I saw this scene while driving home one summer afternoon. What really struck me and made me reach for the camera, was how tiny the farm house looked next to this massive thunderhead building over the mountains. It had a very humbling effect.  One of the many things I love about living in the desert, are the intense and invigorating summer monsoon storms. The progression of "Thunderhead". "Refreshing Perspective" 9 x 12 oil on gesso hardboard $300  Available through my Etsy Shop Here !       Although it's expected, living in the Arizona desert, for the summers to be brutally hot and often uncomfortable, this summer I found myself wondering how and why I was putting up with this extreme climate. This particular summer seemed, and many others agreed, to be more brutal than most. Although I have a cooler in the studio that manages to keep the temperature livable, when the outside temperature reaches 112, somehow it just never feels cool enough inside. This made painting an enduring challenge for several weeks. I suddenly found myself day dreaming of water...cool, refreshing water... I was inspired!
